INSTITUTE FOR THE STUDY OF THE UNIVERSITY IN SOCIETY

Campus Markings Contests

University Circle is often called the nation’s best location for a university campus. We’re surrounded by more than 40 other educational, cultural, and health care institutions who are our partners. This edition of the contest focuses exclusively on bits and pieces of our neighbors’ sites, all of which are visible to passers-by. Let’s see whether you’ve been paying attention.

As in prior editions of the contest, the goal was to identify each of the twelve images posted in here. You’ll find that some are obvious, while others are far from it. Include as much information as you can, and try to be one of the first to submit an entry.

Prizes. The first place winner of each edition receives a special prize (to be determined in consultation with the winner to ensure that it’s appropriate) as well as a framed print of his or her choice of an images in the contest. Each of two runners-up receives a framed print of an image of his or her choice.

Eligibility. Students, faculty, staff (except staff of the Institute for the Study of the University in Society), alumni, neighbors, visitors – everyone is eligible. Previous contestants are eligible even if they’ve won before.

Criteria. Winners will be selected on the basis of the accuracy and completeness of their identifications. That means that adding information about an image beyond simply identifying its location is a plus. In the case of equally accurate and complete submissions, the entry received first will be the winner.
