Writing Resource Center - Workshops & Events
Several workshops and other writing-centered events take place each term at the WRC's Bellflower Hall location on the north end of the Mather Quad and at other locations on campus. The WRC offers workshops for students, faculty teaching in SAGES and other departments, and Case English Department Writing Faculty. The WRC is also involved in the Center for the Study of Writing's annual Writing Week event.
Students
The WRC offers three in-house writing workshops on issues of importance to first-year and other writers. All workshops are held in the WRC Library (Bellflower Hall, Room 104) on Fridays from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m.
This term's student workshops are as follows:
September 25 Selecting and Narrowing a Topic
October 23 Constructing an Argument
November 20 Preparing a Writing Portfolio
Faculty
The WRC offers three Brown Bag lunches for faculty teaching writing in SAGES. These sessions offer instructors opportunities to discuss strategies for teaching particular assignments and to learn more about the resources available in the WRC. This semester, all Faculty Brown Bags will focus on teaching argumentative writing in SAGES.
All Faculty Brown Bag sessions are held in Crawford Hall, Room 111, from 11:30 to 1 p.m. on the Thursdays preceeding our student workshops held on Fridays. We ask that faculty RSVP to writingcenter@case.edu
This year, SAGES faculty Brown Bags will be held on the following Thursdays:
September 24 - Portfolio Reading Committee Overview
October 22 - Meeting SAGES Writing Outcomes for Skills in Argumentation
November 19 - Meeting SAGES Writing Outcomes for Skills in Argumentation
English Department Writing Faculty
Humanities Postdoctoral Research Colloquium, 2009-2010
Beginning in the fall semester 2007, the Writing Resource Center and the Department of English have coordinated a colloquium series for postdoctoral Lecturers and Fellows working in the humanities in the College of Arts and Sciences.
The colloquium comprises regular meetings to present and workshop ongoing research and writing projects in a seminar environment. The first meeting will be held on Friday, September 18, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the WRC Library in Bellflower. Please direct questions to Megan Swihart Jewell (megan.jewell@case.edu) about the program and schedule.
