At Case Western, I teach courses on a
variety of film-related topics.
My research focuses on the horror
film genre and
on the historical reception of cinema. In my 2007 University of
California Press book, Uncanny Bodies:
The Coming of Sound Film and the Origins of the Horror Genre,
I bring these two research interests together. I received my Ph.D. in
2003 from
the University of Chicago.
I welcome inquiries about film
studies at Case, where opportunities exist to do undergraduate and
graduate level work on film. Undergraduates can, for example, minor
in film and custom design their own film majors.
