Darcy L. Brandel is a doctoral candidate in English at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Her areas of specialty include twentieth-century American literature, multi-ethnic literatures, and literary, critical, and gender theories. She will be taking her comprehensive exams in the fall of 2003 and plans to focus her dissertation on female experimental writers, the difficulties they face, and the activism they encourage through their subversive texts. Jamie L. McDaniel is beginning work in the Ph.D. program in English at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He defends his Master's thesis, which focuses on representations of the body in Jeanette Winterson's major novels, in August of 2003. His additional areas of interest include contemporary British fiction, literary and critical theories, and film studies. He anticipates that his dissertation project will focus on texts by Irvine Welsh, Michael Ondaatje, Jeanette Winterson, and Daphne du Maurier and the cinematic adaptations of these texts.
