George S. Traub Memorial Undergraduate Research Fund

EVA L. PANCOAST MEMORIAL FELLOWSHIP (Graduating seniors, graduate students) – March deadline.The Eva L. Pancoast Memorial Fund was established in 1985 by which women graduates of The College of Arts and Sciences and/or The School of Graduate Studies at the University mi! ! ght be assisted in extending their education by foreign study or foreign travel, or both, at any time during the twelve months following their graduation, or, in the case of graduate students, in the twelve months following the current academic year. The amounts of the fellowships generally range from $1,000-$3,500. Recipients will be required to submit a brief report of the project after its completion. Applications may be obtained from the Office of Undergraduate Studies, Sears Building 357.

WRITING TEACHING OPPORTUNITIES SUMMER 2006

Who: Johns Hopkins University -  Center for Talented Youth
We are seeking enthusiastic writing instructors and teaching

assistants to instruct in our summer programs for gifted elementary, middle, and high school students. CTY offers intense, 3-week academic programs for highly talented students from across the country and around the world.

Where: We have residential sites located in
California, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island. We have day sites for commuters located in the Baltimore/Washington, DC and Los Angeles, CA area.


When: Session 1: June 22 – July 15, Session 2: July 15 – August 5 Instructors and teaching assistants can work one or two sessions.

Why: CTY staff work with exceptional students, make contacts and friendships with dynamic colleagues, and gain valuable teaching experience in a rigorous academic setting.


Courses: CTY offers critical and creative writing courses ranging from Stories and Poems (2nd and 3rd grades) to The Critical Essay: Popular Culture (7th grade and above) to The Crafting of Fiction (7th grade and above). New courses this year include Writing Workshop: Modern Fantasy (4th and 5th grades) and The Critical Essay: Science Fiction (7th grade and above).

Salary: Instructors start at $1,940 to $2,940 per 3-week session. Teaching assistants earn $1,000 per 3-week session. Room and board is provided at our residential sites.

New Undergraduate Research Journal at Case

Sandhya Ravichandran is one of a group organized to start an undergraduate research journal that will allow undergraduate students to publish their work in a scholarly journal.

The Case undergraduate research journal, Discussions, publishes papers written by students on any subject. If students have a paper they've written, or some research they've written about, they can submit it by January 27th. The Allegheny Review wants undergraduate writers or artists to submit fiction, poetry, nonfiction, and art to win a $250 prize. Open to all undergrads currently enrolled in a college or university; winners will be published in the 2006 edition of the Review.

Reading fee: $5 (make check out to Allegheny Review; all entrants receive a one-year subscription). Include SASE.
