Since retiring in 2000, I've continued to work on the short story as a genre, on Randall Jarrell, and on recent Native American fiction, writing articles, making conference presentations, and editing the collection of essays from the 2000 CWRU conference on Jarrell, Elizabeth Bishop, and Robert Lowell.
I've also had time to work on playing the viola da gamba, and am the current president of the Viola da Gamba Society of America , an organization about a thousand strong devoted to promoting the music of that instrument. (Check out our website at www.vdgsa.org .) I've enjoyed my retirement move to southwest Florida , with its abundant birds, beaches, and orchids.
