Thomas Söderqvist is professor of history of medicine at the University of Copenhagen and director of the Medical Museion [sic!] there. After earning his Ph.D. at the University of Gothenburg on the history of ecology in Sweden (The Ecologists, 1986), he has worked on the history of immunology, especially the biography of the leading theoretical immunologist Niels Jerne (Science as Autobiography: The Troubled Life of Niels Jerne, Yale University Press, 2003), and he is presently working on a book on the history and poetics of the genre of scientific biography. Professor Söderqvist’s other major field of interest is the historiography of recent science and medicine (e.g., The Historiography of Contemporary Science and Technology, ed., 1997), and he is now heading a research project at the University of Copenhagen to reconstruct its medical history museum by integrating the historiography and museology of recent biomedicine.
