By Invitation Only: Opening Reception and Zverina Lecture

On November 1 st we will be opening a major traveling exhibit entitled Changing the Face of Medicine: Celebrating America's Women Physicians. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/changingthefaceofmedicine/  Upon that occasion, we will host an opening reception in the Cushing Reading Room of the Allen Library, with some remarks of welcome by SOM Dean Ralph Horwitz. At the close of the reception we will adjourn to the Ford Auditorium for the Zverina lecture presented by the exhibit curator Ellen More (University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston). In her talk, entitled Professional Authority, Sexual Morality, and the Woman Physician: Changing the Face of Medicine, Professor More will share insights derived from curating the exhibit. The exhibit will be here for just six weeks and then it moves on to the next venue. While it is here, several other events, lectures, and symposia are in the works. Here at the Allen there will be a companion exhibit opening on October 1 st featuring the early women grads of Western Reserve (six women, 1852-56). This exhibit is based upon Linda Lehmann Goldstein's 1990 Case PhD thesis, When roses bloomed in winter: women medical graduates of Western Reserve College, 1852-56.  See below for a listing other events associated with this exhibit. The exhibit is free and open to the public and will be available for viewing Monday through Friday 8:30 am.- 7:00 pm., Saturday 9:00 am - 5:00 pm., and Sunday 1:00 pm. - 6:00 pm.
