Sept. 1- Oct. 6: Flora Stone Mather Center for Women presents a new Act III Series, Orchestrating the Finale: Strategies for my life. Moderated by: Dr. Nancy K. Johnson Thursdays, 4:00-5:30pm. October 1: there will be a companion exhibit opening also at the Allen Memorial Medical Library, When roses bloomed in winter: women medical graduates of Western Reserve College, 1852-56. featuring the early women grads of Western Reserve (six women, 1852-56). This exhibit is based upon Linda Lehmann Goldstein's 1990 Case PhD thesis. This event is open to the public.

October 19: WISER (Women in Science and Engineering) roundtable, Becoming and Being a Woman Physician, 6:30-8:00 pm. (dinner will be served) Thwing, Spartan room. Panel consists of local women physicians representing different life course stages, medical specialties, practice settings, leadership and family experiences. Panelists will consider a range of questions, including: how and why did you become a physician? What have been the most challenging aspects of your work? What are the most rewarding aspects? Do you think women’s entrance into medicine is reshaping the profession? What is the best piece of advice you can offer to young people contemplating a career in medicine? There will be room for questions generated by audience members. This event is open to Case students, staff and faculty.

October 27: ADVANCE Distinguished Lectureships presents Kristina Ropella, Professor and Chair Biomedical Engineering, Marquette University. This event is open to the public.

November 1: Zverina lecture at 6:00 pm. in the Ford Auditorium at the Allen Memorial Medical Library. Presented by the exhibit curator Ellen More (University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston). In her talk, entitled Professional Authority, Sexual Morality, and the Woman Physician: Changing the Face of Medicine. This event is open to Case students, staff and faculty, and Friends of the Dittrick Museum.

November 1: Opening reception- by invitation only (5:00 pm.) and Zverina lecture (6:00 pm.) presented by the exhibit curator Ellen More (University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston). In her talk, entitled Professional Authority, Sexual Morality, and the Woman Physician: Changing the Face of Medicine The reception will be in the Library reading rooms and the lecture in the Ford Auditorium at the Allen Memorial Medical Library. November 10: Flora Stone Mather Center for Women presents Spotlight Series Luncheon, 11:30 to 1:00 in the 1914 Lounge in Thwing Center. Susan Hinze, medical sociologist, will use numbers and narrative to highlight her own research on physicians, and to trace the intersection of an academic trajectory and a personal life. This event is open to Case students, staff and faculty. Learn more

November 30: The Rainbow Center for Global Child Health is presenting posters and a panel discussion, Allen Memorial Medical Library, posters in the foyer and panel discussion in the Ford Auditorium, 12:00 noon to 1:30 pm. Panelists include Dr. Marissa Herran, Dr. Karen Olness, and Dr. Felicite Katz. This event is open to the public.

December 9: ADVANCE Distinguished Lectureships presents Banu Onaral, Director, School Of Biomedical Eng & Science, Drexel University. The topic will be "Functional Optical Brain Monitoring Based on Near Infrared (fNIR)" Wickenden – Room 322 between 8:30-9:30 am.  This event is open to the public.

K-12 Essay and poster contest: "Why I want to be a Doctor" Local schools are participating in this contest. For more information contact: vmg2@case.edu. This event is open to participating schools students.

The Changing the face of Medicine exhibit is locally co-sponsored by the Cleveland Public Library, Science and Technology Department.

“Changing the Face of Medicine: Celebrating America’s Women Physicians” was developed by the Exhibition Program of the History of Medicine Division of the National Library of Medicine in collaboration with the American Library Association Public Programs Office. The traveling exhibition has been made possible by the National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health Office of Research on Women’s Health. The American Medical Women’s Association provided additional support.
