Cleveland Youth Symphony

The Cleveland Youth Symphony (CYWS) was founded in 1989 with the purpose of providing a musical venue for the most outstanding high school woodwind, brass, and percussion musicians throughout Northeast Ohio. The mission of the group is to perform the most significant symphonic band and wind ensemble literature and to provide the opportunity for outstanding young musicians to rehearse and perform together on a weekly basis.

The organization is sponsored by Case and the Cleveland Institute of Music. The ensemble rehearses weekly from mid-September through early May. In June of 2005, the group will be taking their 5th International Concert tour to Scotland and England.

As a result of the large number of students auditioning for CYWS, a second group was established in the 1995-96 season. The groups are divided by musical and technical maturity.
