Along side the Environmental Heroes 2012-2013 citizen science research team are members of the Geauga School District's Wetlands Education Team who received the Jefferson Award for their Environmental Discovery Project/Youth Service Challenge. This prestigious award was bestowed upon the WET by Christina White of the Jefferson Foundation who likened the award to the Nobel Prize for youth. The Wetlands Education Team was one of only three groups in the nation to receive this award and a gift of $2500.

August 2012 - June 2013: Environmental Heroes
What you do matters!
Learn how in this free after school program for middle and high school students (minimum age 12), a joint program of the Cleveland Metroparks at the Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation-Canalway Center and Case Western Reserve University's Center for Science and Mathematics Education. Self - motivated participants will engage in real science with naturalists and scientists, collecting and analyzing environmental data, and in developing plans to solve environmental problems. Only serious Environmental Heroes, willing to make a commitment for 2 years need apply. Youth will be selected in a competitive process to participate and will spend two weeks in the summer actively developing field observational and investigative skills.

Orientation is August 6-17, 2012, 9:30a.m. – 2:30p.m. daily. After school sessions begin September 11, 2012. After school sessions are on Tuesdays 4:00p.m. – 6:00p.m. throughout the academic year. All sessions are at the Canalway Center, Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation.
