COGNITIVE SCIENCE

Angela Ciccia

Assistant Professor of
Communication Sciences
and Cognitive Science

My research interests are in the area of social information processing, or social cognition. My current research looks at the social cognitive skills of typically developing adolescents and adolescents who have survived a traumatic brain injury. I use functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to identify the underlying functional neuroanatomy involved in social cognitive processing as a way to create a more complete theoretical foundation for understanding social cognition. This theoretical foundation will serve to improve clinical paradigms for the treatment of teens who have social cognitive impairments as a result of a traumatic brain injury and may ultimately be applied to other clinical populations with similar challenges such as Autism and Language Learning Disability.
