Latin Licensure

The Department of Classics is pleased to announce our new Latin Licensure program in conjunction with John Carroll University for students who wish to teach Latin in Ohio schools or any state that accepts Ohio licensure. The program involves earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Classics while taking Latin, Classics and some Education and Psychology courses at CWRU (54 credits in all), and then taking some more Educational courses at John Carroll University, including Student Teaching (20 credits in all). The following is a detailed breakdown:


18 required credits (LATN 101 & 102 may be waived if appropriate)

-LATN 101 Elementary Latin I 3
-LATN 102 Elementary Latin II 3
-LATN 305 Literature of the Republic 3
-LATN 306 Survey of Latin Literature 3
-LATN 380 Adv. Topics in Latin (Prose Composition) 3
