Programs within the Classics Department, as a major, a minor, or
a sequence provide great flexibility and versitility. The major
program provides sufficient depth to be taken alone, but also a
degree of flexibility, allowing it to be effectively combined with
any other field of study. The minor program and the sequences can
provide a base within the humanities and broaden one's understanding
of nearly any field.
Students who enroll in Greek and Latin language courses offered by the Department will be able to take advantage of the superior instruction that is available in small classes. Only in such classes is the instructor always aware of each student's progress and needs. In elementary language courses, daily participation by all students promotes the acquisition and retention of fundamental knowledge that forms the basis of subsequent courses. In upper level courses, small size means that each student has the opportunity to discuss some of the most important texts ever written. A student may also explore areas of special interest through a program of directed readings.
As Case strives to be "the most powerful learning environment," the Classics Department provides a powerful learning environment through its commitment to small group instruction.
