A Message From
Lawrence M. Sayre
Chairman of the Chemistry Department
Case Western Reserve University
Dear Prospective Student,
Choosing a school for your graduate studies is one of the most important decisions you will make, and so I want to take this opportunity to provide a few personal comments.
A program is judged by several criteria: the excellence of its faculty and curricula, the quality of the facilities and instrumentation, and the success of its alumni in their careers. The graduate program at CWRU excels in all these areas. Not only are our faculty dedicated to research and scholarship, but they also provide a helpful, congenial atmosphere for graduate studies.
Also worthy of special comment is the fact that chemical sciences are very extensive at CWRU. Complementing our department are those of biochemistry, macromolecular science, and chemical engineering. Several chemistry faculty have joint appointments in the other departments, and collaborative and interdisciplinary research opportunities abound. Our alumni are very successful in their employment after graduation.
I feel we have a great deal to offer a student interested in graduate studies in chemistry, and hope that you will give us careful consideration as a department of exceptional opportunity. We encourage you to visit us and see our facilities first hand and to meet our faculty. If you wish to do so, or have any other questions about our programs, please feel free to call our graduate admissions office at (216) 368-3621.
Best wishes for success in your continuing studies.
Lawrence M. Sayre, Chairman
