health sciences in anthropology


The undergraduate Health Sciences major in anthropology focuses on health issues, tackling the project of understanding these issues in a cross-cultural context.

This emphasis first gives you a foundational knowledge of anthropology, and then pushes you to investigate, analyze, and communicate how socio-cultural, biological, cognitive, economic, and techno-environmental factors determine patterns of disease, medical behavior, and the organizaiton of and access to health care services.



Major Requirements
  • ANTH 102, 103, and 215
  • ANTH 319
  • One course dealing with a geographic area such as ANTH 330, 331, 341, 352, 353, 356 or 357
  • At least three courses dealing with health/illness-related topics such as ANTH 301, 304, 306, 309, 318, 351, 359, 365, 369, 371, 376, 393, or 397
  • 6 semester hours of approved Anthropology electives
