New Online Resource Added to KSL Alumni Online Library
We are very pleased to announce that members of the KSL Alumni Online Library now have access to the complete digital edition of The Times (London) from 1785-1985. The entire newspaper is captured in this Times Digital Archive database, with all articles, advertisements and illustrations/photos divided into categories to facilitate searching.
This resource is both for the serious researcher, and also provides a fascinating look into the past. It provides primary source material for virtually any discipline – history, science, politics, arts and more.
Recently we received a reference question from an alum who was investigating public opinion in Great Britain regarding the decimalization of the currency in the late 1960’s. By using the Times Digital Archive we were able to find a large number of articles that addressed this issue during the late 60s and early 70s.
Other new opportunities for research:
- Read about the revival of Carnaby Street as a fashion mecca for “swinging London” in 1973
- See a picture of Beatles fans besieging the palace in 1965.
- Find reviews of plays, music, books written at the time of their performance, such as a 1785 production of Hamlet, or a 1845 review of a Beethoven performance.
- Trace public opinion on controversial topics by reading the Letters to the Editor and other opinion pieces. Example - a letter from by George Bernard Shaw in 1945 protesting the use of atomic weapons.
We are pleased to add this new full text database to your resources! Visit http://library.case.edu/ksl/alumni/ for more information.
