UNIVERSITY NEWS

COMPANY, RESEARCHERS FORM FUEL CELL PARTNERSHIP

The university has teamed up with the Ashlawn Group, LLC, of Alexandria, Virginia, to develop fuel cells to double the shelf life of the U.S. Department of Defense "smart" munitions. The partnership also positions Case and Ashland to help create much-needed research and development and manufacturing jobs for Northeast Ohio over the next five years.

TRUSTEE EARNS RECOGNITION

Charles Bolton, chair of the Case Western Reserve University Board of Trustees, has earned the DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD IN TRUSTEESHIP from the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges. The award recognizes Mr. Bolton's many contributions to the university.

PULSE OF AMERICA

Just before "Super Tuesday" on March 2, the university commissioned the research firm Synovate to conduct a nationwide phone survey of 1,000 people of voting age. The survey asked respondents to give their choice of a vice-presidential running mate to Senator John Kerry, should he become the Democratic Party's nominee for president.

CLEVELAND WOMEN'S CONNECTION

Join other alumnae on Wednesday, April 21 at the Cleveland Museum of Art, 11150 East Boulevard, for a special RECEPTION AND GALLERY TOUR. Enjoy light refreshments and view the works of Burchfield and Schreckengost and the collection of Tommy and Gill Li Puma.

Reception begins at 6:00 p.m., followed by tour at 7:00 p.m. Cost is $25 for CWC members, $30 for non-CWC members.

Hudson Relay

BIG RUN, BIG FUN

The ANNUAL HUDSON RELAY, the university's oldest tradition, is ready to take off on April 24. Student and alumni teams are preparing to compete in the 26-mile footrace to celebrate the university's move from Hudson, Ohio, to Cleveland. Head to campus for the big contest and cheer your favorite student or alumni team to victory.

CAMPUS CELEBRATION

SPRINGFEST 2004 gets underway at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 24. The annual daylong outdoor festival, held throughout Freiberger Field, is a celebration of the Case community. The event features live music, games of chance, novelty attractions, food, and prizes.

TRIBUTE TO ACHIEVERS

The Case Reserve Athletic Club (CRAC) will induct nine former student athletes into its sports hall on fame on Friday, April 23. The 27th annual CRAC HALL OF FAME DINNER will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the Veale Convocation, Recreation, and Athletic Center.

WOMEN'S WELLNESS AND FITNESS EXPO

Learn how to be healthy, well, and wiser about exercise, nutrition, and fitness at the first WOMEN'S WELLNESS AND FITNESS EXPO on Thursday, April 15 at the Veale Center. The expo is free.

Start your day with a 5k run/walk and, in between, take advantage of free screenings for blood pressure, bone density, and cholesterol. Try out activities ranging from spinning to Hatha yoga.

ALUMNI WHO'S WHO

If you happen to follow the CBS television lineup on Tuesday nights, be sure to catch the legal drama "The Guardian." Alumnus actor ALAN ROSENBERG (ADL '72) portrays Alvin Masterson, who heads a legal aid services office based in Pittsburgh. Now in its third season, the show airs at 9:00 p.m. EST.

CASE FAST FACT

Senior Stephanie Bush of West Linn, OR, is the fifth student from the university to receive the prestigious CHURCHILL SCHOLARSHIP worth $25,000. She will use the resources to study astronomy at Churchill College, part of Cambridge University.
