Former Surgeon General, Case Western Reserve Alumnus to Deliver Commencement Speech
A rural country doctor saved the life of a young boy from Anniston, Ala., suffering from whooping cough. Hearing stories about the doctor's dedication inspired the young man to pursue a career in medicine. That young man, Dr. David Satcher, has gone on to become a history maker as one of the country's foremost leaders in public health as the 16th Surgeon General of the United States and the former director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
As a Case Western Reserve University alumnus, Satcher will return to his alma mater to inspire a new class of graduates when he delivers the 2009 commencement speech at 9:30 a.m., Sunday, May 17, in Veale Convocation, Athletic and Recreation Center on the Case Western Reserve campus. Full Story

Case Western Reserve University Alumni Outreach
Summer on the Cuyahoga (SOTC) is a unique summer internship program open to students of Case Western Reserve University, Colgate, Cornell, Harvard, Princeton, Smith, University of Chicago and Yale. The program brings together 75-90 students for an intensive summer immersion program designed to help interns explore the professional, civic, and social offerings of the Cleveland area. SOTC offers students challenging internships, community introductions, alumni connections, and group housing for the summer.
Equally vital to the overarching experience is the connection students make with local alumni. Dedicated alumni from all the participating institutions devote substantial time to the program. In addition
to mentoring responsibilities, alumni often join students for social outings at such events such as Indians games, concerts and behind the scenes tours of local tourist attractions.
For more information about Summer on the Cuyahoga or to find out how you can get involved, please contact University Alumni Relations Executive Director, Dan Clancy, via e-mail or by calling 800-866-6280.
