Case Western Reserve University Fans Can Help Coach Debeljak Win the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year Award
Thanks to all the Case Western Reserve University fans who voted, Coach Debeljak has been named
a finalist for the 2008 Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year Award, which honors college coaches who demonstrate responsibility and excellence on and off the field.

If Coach Debeljak wins the award, he will receive $50,000 for his favorite charities and $20,000 for Case Western Reserve University’s Alumni Association – but he has not won yet.  There’s one more step Spartan fans can take to help Coach Debeljak become Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year: vote!

Go to the Coach of the Year web site between now and December 22 to once again cast your vote for Coach Debeljak and help him surpass the 4 other finalists!

New McArthur Research Network to Examine Impact of Aging Society
What does society and the country need when the "walker" generation outnumbers the "stroller" crowd?

With aging baby boomers outpacing new births, a solution to this dilemma may require an intergenerational focus, according to Robert H. Binstock, Ph.D. (pictured here), professor of aging, health and society at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He is among the country's leading scholars in the field of aging selected by The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation to participate in a newly created inter-disciplinary research group called the Aging Society Network to tackle these national issues. Full Story

Standard & Poor's Takes Note of Case Western Reserve University's Financial Progress
Improves Outlook to "Stable"
Case Western Reserve University's recent financial success this week drew positive notice from Standard & Poor's. The independent provider of credit ratings has announced that it will maintain the university's AA- long-term rating, and revise its outlook from "negative" to "stable." The improved outlook should translate to lower borrowing costs for the institution going forward. Full story

Case Western Reserve Law Professors to Discuss Global Fight Against Genocide, Offer Insiders' Look at Saddam Trial and Execution
Case Western Reserve University law professor Michael Scharf, co-author of "Enemy of the State: The Trial and Execution of Saddam Hussein" will host a pair of book talks and signings in the Cleveland area.

Enemy of State chronicles the true story of the apprehension, trial and execution of the Iraqi dictator. From the trial's inception on October 19, 2005, Scharf and Newton led a team of experts who prepared the judges and prosecutors for "the mother of all trials." Scharf, director of the Frederick K. Cox International Law Center and a former State Department official who helped create the Yugoslavia Tribunal in 1993, and Newton confronted such issues as whether the death penalty should apply, how to run a fair trial when political and military passions run so high and which of Saddam's many crimes should be prosecuted. Kelvin Smith Library Expands Alumni Benefits

Many CWRU alumni have maintained their ties to Kelvin Smith Library (KSL) by becoming members of KSL’s Alumni Program. Now members have even more benefits, including use of the Freedman Multimedia Center and increased borrowing privileges. Any CWRU alumni have the option of joining KSL’s  program at one of three levels.
