As a student I was able to get full internet access through the University. I notice that Case Online Services offers e-mail forwarding, but what about dial-up accounts? Will Case offer those to alumni in the future?
Case will not be offering full internet service to alumni. However,
there are many inexpensive internet service providers available. If you
need help finding a provider in your area, try visiting "The
List".

university will issue a diploma certificate. The charge for this is $50.

Case Online Questions
Why must I provide my Social Security
Number to apply for a Case Online Account?
Case uses Social Security Numbers to verify your identity. As you probably know, Case Online services are only available to alumni of Case and this helps us ensure that no but you can create or access your account. Please note that we keep information such as Social Security Numbers and birthdates confidential. These are the same policies used to set all Case accounts.
I'm concerned about sending my birthdate and Social security number to an unsecure server. Can I apply for a Case Online account over a secure server?
Yes, we have a secure application form. To use it simply go
to https://www.cwru.edu/cgi-bin/cwruser-application-ssl.pl.
You will be prompted for a username and password. Use Case Online for both
then fill out the form as usual.
I signed up for a Case Online account a few days ago. How do I find out my user ID and whether my account has been processed?
To see if your account has been established, you may go back into the
application
page, fill in your name, date of birth, and social security number
and submit the form. If your account has been established, the system
will provide you with your user ID. Your password will be that which
you chose when you first applied for the account.
What is my password? My account has been processed and I have my userID, but I don't know what my password is, I don't recall having to submit a password when I first applied; I forgot my password.
If for some reason you do not have your password, we can reset it for you.
Simply reset your password. The account reset process takes approximately 24 hours.
I am not a resident of the United States and do not have a Social Security number. How do I fill out the application for Case Online Services?
Since you do not have an American Social Security number, we recommend that
you select a nine-digit number that you know and will remember. Return
to the Case Online application at https://www.cwru.edu/cgi-bin/cwruser-application-ssl.pl
and put this number in the Social Security field. Then, submit your application.
Check back in a couple of days. You will need to go to the Application
form, supply your name, date of birth, and the substitute social security
number you supplied. Your account should be activated and you will be
instructed to proceed through your biographical form and it will ask
you to establish your password.
Earlier I tried to apply for a Case Online
account, but the system would not accept my application without a middle
name. I do not have a middle name. How can I process my application?
The requirement for the Middle Name field on the Case Online application
has been removed. Please go to the Case Online
application form and apply again.
When I applied for my account I got a message saying that my application
needed to be verified by Alumni Services. I get mail from the University,
shouldn't you already have a record of me in the database?
Just because your account was not automatically verified and required
the manual verification process, it does not mean we do not have a record
of you in our alumni database. The Case Online verification key is the combination
of both your date of birth and your social security number. If both pieces
of data are not found in the database, then manual verification is required.
When you supply your birthdate and social security number on the application,
we update the database with this data so you can be "found" when you
resubmit the application in a couple of days. Check
the status of your application.
Enter your name, date of birth and social security number. The system
should respond with the status of your Case Online account.
I remember seeing
more instructions about using Case Online for my email account when I first
signed up. Where are those instructions?
In order for the University to counter a problem with email spamming
on its servers, we temporarily curtailed off-campus use of these servers.
These systems have now been reconfigured. Visit the e-mail
page for more information.
I'm trying to configue my email program. What are the POP and SMTP servers
at Case?
Case's POP server is pop.cwru.edu. Case's SMTP server is smtp.cwru.edu.
Do I have to use the authenticator to change my password? Isn't there
an easier way?
A new web-based method is now available. Visit the change
your password page for details.
I know my user ID is xyz99, but what is my e-mail address? Your e-mail
address is xyz99@alumni.case.edu. Those of you who have been
using xyz99@po.case.edu should change to the new address.
I read that Case has switched to a new e-mail system
that enables web access. Why can't I get this to work?
At this time, the web client is
only available to people immediately associated with the University (current
students, faculty, and staff). This is due to a licensing issue with the new
email system. Until this is resolved, you may
continue to use e-mail forwarding or the POP protocol to access your
email.
Directory Questions
Do I need special equipment to access the
online directory? No, if you have an active Case Online Account and Web Access you can access the directory.
I am a graduate of Case, but I can't find my name in the
Directory. Why not?
If you are coded as a lost alumni, or if you asked us to not include
you in the print directory you will not be in the online directory. To
be included, send e-mail with your current name (and maiden name if applicable),
address, phone number and e-mail address to alumweb@case.edu.
Note: To protect your privacy, it is our policy to ask if you would like
to be excluded from the directory before posting your name. Students
are surveyed about inclusion in the directory shortly before they graduate.
How can I find an alumna
if I only know her maiden name? Our search pages allow you to search
by either current name or maiden name. Just select the option that corresponds
with your information.
Do I have to know the correct spelling of a name?
No, you may type in the first few letters and retrieve a list of names
beginning with those letters.
I just sent in an address correction but
it doesn't show up in the directory. Why not? Although we update the
records in our mainframe as soon as we receive your address corrections,
that information is only uploaded to the directory once a month. Your
changes will appear as soon as the information is loaded. Why do I have
to sign up for Case Online to access the Directory?
To protect your privacy, we are limiting Directory access to Case alumni.
Limiting access to Case Onlines is the most efficient way we currently have
of verifying your alumni status.
General Questions
How do I get in touch with a classmate? If
you do not have access to the alumni directory and are trying to reach
a former classmate, you may call the Office of Alumni Affairs at (216)
368-6280. Please note, this information will only be provided to fellow
alumni so as to maintain the privacy of our graduates. An online version
of the directory is available to alumni with Case Online accounts.
