Automatically Approved Pre-tenure Extensions
In recognition of the family obligations facing many
faculty, a pre-tenure extension is now available
to untenured men and women in cases of family
emergencies and/or childbirth or adoption.
Upon written notification by the care-giving parent or
parents within one year after each live birth or after each
adoption, an extension of one year of the pretenure
period shall be granted by the Provost. Faculty may
then apply for tenure on the original or the extended
schedule at their discretion.

Consensual Relations Policy
Romantic or sexual relationships can occur in a campus
setting. All relationships must be consensual, but
even when consensual, concerns can be raised about
the validity of the consent, conflicts of interest, and
preferential treatment.
This policy requires management plans for all those
having romantic or sexual relationships with those they
supervise.

Partner Hiring Policy
The University has created a structure, used at the
discretion of the Provost and Deans, to assist in the
successful recruitment and retention of new faculty
members and administrators who increase the quality
and diversity of the university.

Cultural Competency Awareness Class
The Faculty Cultural Competency training is designed
for faculty to achieve a better understanding and
appreciation of differences in others. The training
stresses University policies and the importance of an
equitable, welcoming climate for all faculty, staff, and
students. All new faculty are required by the Office of the
Provost to attend the training before the end of their first
fiscal year on campus.
Faculty Diversity Website
A new faculty diversity website was created to aid in
the recruitment of a diverse candidate pool. The Faculty
Diversity Specialist, originally supported by the ACES
grant, has been established as a permanent position in
the Office of the President and the Provost.

Faculty Exit Interviews and New
Faculty Satisfaction Survey
Online exit interviews have been created to provide data
that may be used to establish retention activities within
the colleges and schools.
An online new faculty satisfaction survey is being
administered as a faculty member enters their third year
at Case. The intent is to improve the pre-tenure situation
and retain our new faculty by gathering data that allows
for early intervention.
LGBT Resources & Information
A website is maintained to provide Lesbian Gay Bisexual
and Transgender information and support to our
campus community.
This site provides a variety of information about Case
policies, student groups and organizations, news,
and the latest research on LGBT issues and concerns,
including the domestic partner policy and benefits
information.

Work Load Release Policy
The University wishes to provide eligible faculty members with a period of time in which to adjust to the demands of parenting newly born or adopted children under the age of six. A faculty member who is the primary care-giving parent and whose duties as a faculty member include teaching and service duties shall be granted a workload release from teaching and service duties for one academic semester following each live birth or each adoption of a child under the age of six. The request for a workload release of teaching and service duties is to be made, in writing, to the department chair, where the constituent faculty is organized into departments, or to the Dean. The request is forwarded to the Dean for approval.

Temporary Change in Parking
The university understands that life events sometimes necessitate a member of the Case campus community to park in an area other than his/her assigned lot. In order to request a temporary change in parking, please follow the instructions below:
1) First, request a note from your doctor specifying your injury/condition that is causing your need for parking closer to your office/work area and the length of time that you will need the temporary parking. A faxed copy is acceptable. Example of possible text from Doctor:
To Health Service, Case Western Reserve University
RE: Injury/condition of patient X
Please be advised that X is a patient of mine who is being treated for Y. I have advised X to [limit walking, use crutches etc.] for x amount of time. If you have further questions please contact my office at XXX-XXX.
2) Fax the copy of your doctors explanation along with a typed note from you that specifies a) where you currently park (lot number) and, b) where you would like to park (lot number) for the duration of your injury/condition. Please name a first and second choice for closer parking as some lots are so limited as to be unable to accommodate a temporary change. Fax number for Health Services: 368-8530.
This process is confidential and information about your injury/condition will remain in the Health Service Office. For questions about this process or HIPPA call Health Services at 368-2450.
3) Health Service will process a request for your temporary permit within 72 hours and submit it to Access Services. The temporary permit is usually issued within 48 hours. Access Services will call you when the pass is ready, but if you would like to check on the status of your temporary permit please call 368-2273. Access Services will work to meet all requests, but all first choice requests may not be possible.
If you have questions about permanent accommodation, please contact the Equal Opportunity and Diversity Office at 368-8877. Faculty members should speak with the Faculty Diversity Officer, and staff members should speak with the Equal Opportunity Specialist.
Best Wishes for a Speedy Recovery!
