The Department of Medicine
at University Hospitals of Cleveland and Case Western Reserve University

the Department of Medicine excel in adult internal medicine and remain on

Cardiovascular Medicine
Known for state-of-the-art care and treatment in cardiac electrophysiology

Clinical
and Molecular Endocrinology
The Division of Endocrinology is devoted to an interdisciplinary approach
in the management of diabetes. Recognized for their work with the brittle
diabetic, this team also has specialists available for:
- High-risk pregnancies complicated by diabetic conditions
- Pituitary disease
- Thyroid problems

Gastroenterology
This group of specialists provides diagnostic, therapeutic and consultative
expertise in all facets of clinical gastroenterology. Specialists
are available to provide the finest care available for a variety of digestive
disorders including:

- Swallowing disorders
- Inflammatory bowel disease

General Internal Medicine
Located in the Douglas J. Moore Center at University Hospitals, our highly
trained primary care physicians provide individualized medical care.
Each physician offers health promotion and disease prevention plans based
on a careful understanding of personal, family and lifestyle histories.
These physicians have the opportunity to access sophisticated diagnostic
and therapeutic technology in the treatment of their patients.
Geriatric
Medicine
Geriatric Medicine at University Hospitals is one of the largest programs
in the country. After performing a multidisciplinary assessment of
each patient's needs and activities, our geriatricians take a comprehensive
approach to elder and long-term health care. The Fairhill Center for
Aging provides this group of specialists with uncompromising support of
the outpatient and inpatient hospital needs of the geriatric patient.
Hematology/Oncology
Respected as a leader in both patient care and research, highly trained
specialists are available to manage a wide variety of blood disorders and
cancers through the University Ireland Cancer Center at University Hospitals.
The Ireland Cancer Center, along with Case Western Reserve University, has
been designated by the National Cancer Institute as the only clinical cancer
center in northern Ohio. Treatment programs include:
- Bone marrow transplantation
- Breast cancer
- Liver disease
- Consultation in both hematology and coagulation in both hematology
and coagulation disorders
- General oncology, including leukemia and lymphomas
Hypertension
Our specialists in the care and treatment of hypertensive conditions
emphasize outpatient management. Supported by leading edge research,
these specialists have access to the latest therapeutic advances in the
management of hypertension, or high blood pressure.
Infectious Diseases and HIV Medicine
These physicians offer consultation in international health, tropical
diseases and immunization therapy, and lead the Traveler's Health Care Center.
Supported by research through the National Institutes of Health AIDS Clinical
Trials Unit, our physicians provide comprehensive evaluation and care of
HIV-infected individuals. Specialists are also available with advanced
training in:
- Evaluation for recurrent infections

- Orthopaedic infections
- Outpatient antibiotic management

Nephrology
The Division of Nephrology is known for its excellent work with kidney
transplant patients and continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD)
patients. In addition, these physicians provide the full range of
clinical expertise in:

Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine
Supported by a history of outstanding research into breathing and sleep
disorders, this group of specialists provides diagnostic and therapeutic

Rheumatology
In conjunction with the Musculoskeletal Institute at University Hospitals
and the Northeast Ohio Multi-Purpose Arthritis Center, the Rheumatology
staff offers comprehensive care and treatment of all rheumatic diseases.
